Ameriprise, I'm not interested
Almost two years ago, I patiently listened to an American Express Financial Advisor explain to me why I needed to give her $500 so she could sell me some crappy mutual funds and life insurance I didn't really need. Why? So I could get a $50 gift certificate they were offering to sit through the sales pitch. It might've been worth it if I didn't get stuck in traffic on the way home - I probably made $50 for about an hour and a half.
Well, the company is now called Ameriprise and they're offering $75 to sit through the sales pitch. I signed up in December but then I decided not to do it again because, well, I'm lazy. Still, it's not a bad way to earn some quick cash if you have the time. Like these guys over at FatWallet say - take their cash, but don't give them yours. You can buy better mutual funds at Vanguard and save a whole lot of money.
Anyway, the guy from Ameriprise keeps calling. All I'd have to do is tell him to stop, but I never pick up the cell phone when I see it's him using CallerID. He called about 3-4 times a week from December to the end of January, trying to set up an appointment to give me $75. The last three weeks, he's only called on Saturdays. I would tell him to stop calling but I want to see how long he'll keep at it.

Free $200 from CitiBank
Here's an offer that you can't fill out on the web - you have to do it over the phone. Call Citibank at 866-335-1242 and mention offer code MGSF. You'll need to open a checking account with at least $1,500 and you'll earn $100. Then you need to sign up for monthly direct deposit, or, even easier, pay two bills a month for six consecutive months to earn another $100. That's $200 on a deposit of $1,500 over six months, for a risk-free annualized return of just over 26%. The offer expires July 31, 2006.
